It’s no secret that the World of Hyatt is my favorite hotel loyalty program and they just launched their latest promotion to purchase points so you may want to bookmark this.
BUY HYATT POINS WITH 30% BONUS
At the moment, World of Hyatt is offering a 30% bonus when you purchase at least 5,000 points or more in one transaction through 24 November 2020.
Important Note: World of Hyatt allows you buy up to 55,000 points per account per calendar year. If you buy the maximum amount of points (55,000 points), it would cost $1320.
USING A CREDIT CARD TO PURCHASE HYATT POINTS
When purchasing Hyatt points you will find that it is processed by points.com. In other words, this purchase DOES NOT count as a hotel purchase for the purposes of credit card spending.
To maximize the amount of points you obtain for this purchase, I would recommend using a card such as the Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express [READ MORE] or Chase Freedom Unlimited where you can obtain more than 1x for spend.
IS THIS A GOOD DEAL?
Buying points can be a challenging decision, however, you may be able to obtain a lot of value on both ends of the Hyatt award chart.
For example, for those of you that love expensive, fancy, and top-tier properties, it doesn’t get any better than the Park Hyatt Sydney, a Category 7 hotel (30,000 points per night). The hotel can retail for over $1000 per night during certain times of the year. However, purchasing 30,000 points through this promotion would cost $576. Obviously, that’s still a lot of money but it’s nearly 50% off.
Another example would be the ultra-exclusive and posh Park Hyatt Maldives, another Category 7 hotel where you will find cash rates often more $1000+ per night during peak season. Again…$576.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Hyatt Regency Houston Intercontinental Airport is a Category 1 property (5,000 points per night) with paid rates often approaching $200 per night once you factor in the taxes and service charges (which you don’t have to pay on an award booking). Meanwhile, if buying points, your cost would be $120 per night and you will have 1500 remaining.
Hyatt also partners with many of the hotels on the Las Vegas strip. Again, you may be able to find significant discounts when hotel rates are astronomical during a specific time.
I would also recommend you take a look at the 7 “Sweet Spots” For World of Hyatt Awards In The USA that I wrote several months ago. You may be able to find some great value there too.
As always, hotel rates can fluctuate and depending on your dates of travel you may not be able to extract AMAZING value out of the points but, as shown above, depending on your travel plans it is possible to stay for a significant discount.
It’s also worth noting that Hyatt has delayed introduction of the ‘peak and off-peak’ award chart until July 2022 but once that happens, it will create some variability in terms of award pricing.
STACKING POINTS FOR ULTIMATE VALUE
While Hyatt limits how many points you can buy per year, Hyatt also lets you combine points across accounts for the purposes of redemption, which could yield an even better deal. There are two major restrictions to be aware of:
- You can only transfer points to another member “in order to have a sufficient number of points to redeem a particular award”
- You can only combine points (regardless of whether you’re sending or receiving) once every 30 days
And in order to combine points, you’ll need to complete Hyatt’s point combining request form.
OTHER WAYS TO EARN HYATT POINTS
One of the reasons that I find World of Hyatt to be so valuable is because of how easy the points are to come by.
There are a lot of credit cards where you can earn Hyatt points. For example, you can earn World of Hyatt points with The World Of Hyatt Credit Card, AND/OR transfer over points from Ultimate Rewards.
Being able to efficiently transfer credit card points to Hyatt makes a world of difference. Here are some of the cards that I recommend for accumulating Hyatt points:

| The World Of Hyatt Credit Card – Earn up to 50,000 Bonus Points – 25,000 Bonus Points after you spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. Plus an additional 25,000 Bonus Points after you spend a total of $6,000 on purchases within the first 6 months of account opening. |
FINAL STAMP
There are a lot of circumstances under which it could make sense to buy World of Hyatt points. But, as always, you should crunch the numbers and see if this promotion works for you.
A 30% bonus on the purchase of World of Hyatt points could represent a very good deal, so if you’re in the market for buying points, this is an excellent opportunity.
Personally, I know quite a few people that find it worthwhile to buy World of Hyatt points (particularly those outside the US, who don’t have access to lucrative credit cards). But again, consider the hotel cash prices before buying. In many markets, hotels are offering rock-bottom rates so, it would not make sense to buy points.
