One of my favorite perks of American Express credit cards are ‘Amex offers.’
If you’re not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program where your American Express credit cards are targeted for various savings and bonus offers. In many cases, these offers can save you big money. I mean…would you pay $100/year to save $500?
To view your Amex Offers, login to your Amex account and scroll to the bottom of your account summary page where you’ll see a list of eligible offers for that specific card. It should look like this…
The offers vary from person to person and can come in different forms. For example, one individual may be offered points for spending a certain amount of money, while another individual may be offered a credit for spending the same amount of money.
NEW AMEX OFFER
Currently, there’s a new Amex Offer where you can get 20% back as a statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a hotel booking online by 12/31/2020.
As always, I would recommend that you read through the offer terms so you’re aware of how to utilize this offer. For example, the terms state:
- Offer only valid on room rate and room charges
Therefore, if you were planning to apply the discount to a cruise, vacation package, flight, or car rental, you would be out of luck.

Determining whether you should pay cash or points for a hotel stay can always be a challenging decision however, this offer is straightforward.
To maximize this offer, you would want the purchase price to be near $100. Clearly, the more you exceed $100, the less of a “discount” you receive.
It’s worth noting that if you purchase a hotel room from a third-party site (e.g. expedia, orbitz, etc.), you will NOT receive elite qualifying nights, however, if you’re simply looking to save a few dollars, this is a solid offer.
