Unique challenges [read: COVID], require unique answers [read: creative promotions] and several airlines have stepped up to the plate to offer just that. The concept is simple to understand but Frontier Airlines may take the cake for…how do I say this nicely…dumbest promotions I’ve ever heard about.
Understanding that I write about travel promotions daily, that says a lot. Let’s look at the details.
OUR LOVE FOR ORLANDO

Although I love a deal, it’s rare that I fly on Frontier Airlines – the American ultra-low-cost airline that flies to over 100 destinations throughout the United States and 30 international destinations. No shade for anyone that is loyal to the airline.
This afternoon as I was clearing out my mailbox, I came across their latest promotion to… I suspect… encourage passengers to fly with the carrier.
The airline has partnered with the tourism association group ‘Visit Orlando’ and is providing free flights to Orlando, Florida if your FIRST or Last name is ‘Orlando.’
Simply enter your first name, last name, email address and zip code and the carrier will then contact entrants to “confirm eligibility and provide the flight voucher upon such confirmation.”

As I’ve stated in several other posts, I’m a numbers guy so I was curious to see how many people had the name ‘Orlando.’
I quickly googled “popularity of names” and the first site that appeared was howmanyofme.com. Just for clarity, this is not an ultra-scientific study, I was simply attempting to establish a foundation to see how many free flights Frontier may be on the hook for.
Interestingly, there are currently 61,519 people in the U.S. with the first name of Orlando, and fewer than 123 people in the U.S. with the last name of Orlando. For simplicity, let’s just say 62,000 people total.

Given there are ~331 million people in the U.S., that’s roughly .00018% of the population are eligible for this promotion.
TERM AND CONDITIONS
The Terms & Conditions of the promotion state that “Individuals with the first or last name ‘Orlando’ are eligible to receive a $250 Frontier Airlines travel voucher for a free (up to the $250 covered by the voucher) flight to Orlando International Airport (MCO) between Oct. 13-20, 2020.”
But here is the kicker…if you happen to be among the .00018% of people that are eligible, Frontier Airlines is providing you a trip TO Orlando. Yes, you read that correctly, this is one-way, not a round trip. You’ll have to pay for that.
FINAL STAMP
This promotion is amazing…in the weirdest and funniest kind of way. Not only do you have to have an extremely unique name but you also can only fly during the next week. And you only have the “opportunity” to do it one-way for free. hahaha FABULOUS!
What do you think about this promotion? Are you planning to take advantage of it?
The promotion is definitely…unique. But I think you skipped over the most fascinating part of this article. Let’s talk about the 1 soul that has the name Orlando Orlando. Wow!
