Let’s be honest…I own various credit cards that receive no love and collect dust for several reasons. In fact, I even own credit cards that I continue to pay an annual fee on that receive very little attention. The reason I keep these cards and pay the annual fee is because the benefits outweigh the annual fee.
But my wallet has been slowing getting a “makeover” because of the lucrative offers banks are beginning to offer on some cards.
One such credit card that (unfortunately) isn’t utilized much is my Marriott Bonvoy card. I continue to pay the annual fee because:
- I tend to stay at a lot of Marriott properties (at least prior to the pandemic) and the annual fee yields a free night certificate. In recent years, I’ve been able to redeem my free night certificate for $500+/night hotel rooms for paying an annual fee of $125.
- The card gives 15 nights towards elite status annually
- And the card gives 6x points per dollar for Marriott stays certainly doesn’t hurt!
In addition, my Bonvoy card has AMEX offers which also save me money on purchases.
If you’re not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program where your American Express credit cards are targeted for various savings and bonus offers. In many cases, these offers can save you big money. I mean…would you pay $100/year to save $500?
HOW DO I SEE MY ‘AMEX OFFERS?’
To view your Amex Offers, login to your Amex account and scroll to the bottom of your account summary page where you’ll see a list of eligible offers for that specific card. It should look like this…
The offers vary from person to person and can come in different forms. For example, one individual may be offered points for spending a certain amount of money, while another individual may be offered a credit for spending the same amount of money.
NEW AMEX OFFER
If you’re similar to me and do not place much spend on your Marriott cards, you may want to take a look at their Amex offers.
Currently, both, the Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card [READ MORE] and the The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card [READ MORE] have targeted offers that may encourage you to remove it from the sock drawer and place it back in your wallet.
Let’s take a look at the offers…
There’s a new targeted Amex Offer for $50 back when you spend $200+ at select Marriott Bonvoy properties.
As always, I would recommend that you read through the offer terms so you’re aware of how to utilize this offer. For example, the terms for the hotel state “offer valid only at participating Marriott Bonvoy properties in the U.S. and U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.” If you were planning to redeem this offer on an international trip, it would not work.
PRO TIP: You have to spend $200+ cumulatively in order to get the credit. In other words, you can spend across multiple stays to meet that threshold.
Second, there’s a new targeted Amex Offer for +6 points per dollar spent at U.S. restaurants, on up to $7,500. I assume that many people are eating out these days so obtaining extra points for doing activities that you were going to do anyway seems like a good reason to remove this card from the sock drawer.
Finally, there’s a new targeted Amex Offer for +6 points per dollar at U.S. gas stations, on up to $7,500. Again, I know that many people are not driving as much and perhaps working from home but if you are putting gas in your vehicle, obtaining extra points for doing activities that you were going to do anyway seems like a good reason to remove this card from the sock drawer.
I’m a numbers guy and this is a great opportunity to save money and increase your points at the same time.
If you’re a Marriott fan (or have a Marriott stay soon), this could be EVEN MORE lucrative because the of THE MARIOTT BONUS PROMOTION from a few days ago.
Again, if you have either:
- The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant American Express Card [READ MORE], which offers 6x Bonvoy points on your Marriott spending
- The Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express Card [READ MORE], which offers 6x Bonvoy points on your Marriott spending
…you can maximize your points earning while taking advantage of these offers.
And don’t forget, you can use THIS TRICK if you want to see more Amex offers.
Were you targeted for this Amex Offer? Do you plan on taking advantage of this offer?
