I wanted to share a story from 1TP reader ERICKA FROM HOUSTON, who sent a very awesome DM this morning…

After reading your post about Israel and getting points from having a baby, I was inspired to share my story because you sir just took my honeymoon to the next level.

This will be a very quick story. My husband and I got married last year. We’re both social workers and don’t make a lot of money. Although we got married, we had to put our honeymoon on hold and save up for it.

Luckily, a few gifts of cash from the wedding came through so we put that cash in the pot as we planned to go all-out and do a honeymoon in Thailand.

Long story short, and per your advice, I signed up for Chase Sapphire Preferred and we both put everything on there. My husband even laughed when I used it at the Dollar Store but I don’t care because every dollar counts. We made the spending requirement at the beginning of month 3 and we got the 60,000 points.

We paid about $350 roundtrip for our flights already but we were still talking about what hotels to stay at. The hotels in Bangkok are pretty cheap BUUUUUTTT we went from staying at cheap hotels to looking at some of the Hyatt properties around Thailand since you said that you liked them and it was often a good value when redeeming points.

Last night we booked the Cape Fahn Hotel in Koh Samui. It cost $1000+ per night or 20,000 points per night so we’re redeeming all 60,000 points for 3 nights. 60,000 points for $3,000+! BOOM!

I don’t know if you’ve stayed there but I’m just excited because we went from staying at cheap hotels to staying at our first luxury hotel. I was already excited about my honeymoon but this is next level type stuff.

Thanks you sir. I’ll provide my review when I return.

I love when I receive messages from readers and I couldn’t be more happy to share this on such an adequate day…Valentine’s Day!

I am familiar with SLH hotels as Hyatt has been adding several SLH hotels to their database over the last few months but I am not familiar with this specific hotel. However, after some research, you have definitely put this hotel on the map for me because it looks awesome!!!

This is, yet, another great example of how the benefits of your credit card can take your experience to the next level.

If you’re in a position to get approved and meet the spending requirements, it’s not hard to earn a lot of points and redeem them for amazing value and there’s also little downside to the points and miles hobby as long as you stay organized and manage your expenses and credit responsibly.

Additionally, there’s no need to feel intimidated if you’re new to points and miles. Start by checking out our beginner’s guide and learning basic strategies to maximize your rewards. And if you have questions, don’t hesitate to comment on the blog or email me. Most of all, have fun! Award travel can be rewarding far beyond the money saved.

Have you had an experience where points have saved you a lot money?
