6 More Great Hotels To Redeem The Anniversary Reward Night From The IHG Premier Card

Intercontinental Singapore

A few days ago, I wrote about 5 great hotels where you can redeem your IHG free night certificate. At the end of the article I asked “What are your favorite hotels for redeeming these reward nights?” and several of our readers, filled my inbox with great suggestions (including some hotels I’ve stayed at).

To ensure that everyone is up-to-speed, here are the basics:

  • Chase introduced the new IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card
  • It has an amazing welcome bonus of 140,000 points after spending $3,000 on the card within the first 3 months
  • In addition to the amazing welcome bonus, it has a host of benefits, but my favorite is the annual reward night that you can redeem at properties costing up to 40,000 points per night which I believe more than outweighs the annual fee for the card.

Ideally, you would want to use the award certificate at the most expensive property you can find (that costs 40,000 points or less). With this strategy you would be, essentially, exchanging the $89 annual fee for a room that could retail at $500+ per night.

So let’s dive into some of your suggestions. Here are some great options for redeeming your anniversary night certificate from the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.

#6: InterContinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers

The more business-oriented InterContinental Sandton Towers is connected to the Sandton Convention Center, and the staff draws on their local experience to make your stay memorable. Their insider knowledge will help you explore attractions close to the hotel. Whether it be browsing handmade African artifacts at the Craft Market, grabbing some tasty food, or exploring the vibrant Nelson Mandela Square, the experience will be tailor-made.

Points per night: 30,000

#7: InterContinental Bangkok

Bangkok takes on a different “vibe” depending on where in the city you choose to stay (more info in #11) but the InterContinental Bangkok, located just a few blocks from Lumphini Park, will give you tranquility in an otherwise bustling metropolis. In addition to six on-site restaurants, guests will enjoy easy access to every corner of the city, as the hotel is also situated on two of the main metro lines.

Points per night: 40,000

#8: InterContinental Athenaeum, Athens

Everyone enjoys Greece. Well, why not be in the center of it all at The InterContinental Athenaeum Athens?

The hotel offers stunning views overlooking the Acropolis. The hotel’s design pays respect to its ancient Greek surroundings while still delivering modern luxury. And after a long day exploring the city, return to the rooftop bar for sweeping views of the city.

Points per night: 35,000

#9: InterContinental Budapest

I enjoy cities that are a little off-the-beaten-path and this one fits the bill. I’ve stayed here and enjoyed every moment.

When staying at the InterContinental Budapest, guests have the unique experience of enjoying three UNESCO World Heritage Sites while staying in one of the most prized pieces of real estate in the city. From the famous Chain Bridge to the Royal Palace and Buda Castle Hill right across the Danube River, the InterContinental is seamlessly integrated with the city. Additionally, the surrounding neighborhood is full of restaurants, allowing you to get to know the city instead of just watching from a distance.

Points per night: 40,000

#10: Crowne Plaza London – Kings Cross

Let’s be clear…London is expensive! Any discount for hotel stays is greatly appreciated. But why pay money, when you can use points?

Right in the heart of London, you can use your award night certificate at the Crowne Plaza London – Kings Cross. It’s close to King’s Cross St. Pancras Underground station, making getting around London on the Tube extremely accessible.

PRO-TIP: One perk of this property is that you can use your award night to book a room with two beds that is big enough for four guests. Many times you’ll find that properties in London and many other areas of Europe only offer standard rooms capped at two guests. This makes this property a great find for families.

Points per night: 40,000

#11: InterContinental Pattaya

Located nearly 1.5 hours southeast of Bangkok Thailand, you will find the InterContinental Pattaya Resort located on a cliff, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. The resort enjoys a beachfront location with unsurpassed views to Koh Larn (Coral Island) and beyond. The comfortable and spacious 156 rooms include premium Club InterContinental Suites and Villas, and are fully decorated in a tasteful mix of traditional Thai and oriental elements.

Points per night: 35,000

Caveat: Personally, I’ve never stayed at this property but I received this recommendation from 6 readers that had a great time. Just for clarity, the property looks amazing but Pattaya (the city) is also known for other…things. Google is your best friend!

FINAL STAMP

With so many IHG properties around the world, you’ll rarely have a challenge finding a property when traveling.

Additionally, their brands are spread across the spectrum – from basic to luxury. And if you’re creative, you can find some amazing luxury properties in lower categories to stretch your points from the welcome bonus too!

But as you can see, there are plenty of ways to redeem this award night certificate for a stay worth much more than the $89 annual fee on the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card (or the $49 annual fee on the old IHG Select card).

Tell me, which property are you considering using your free night award?
