5 Great Hotels To Redeem The Anniversary Reward Night From The IHG Premier Card

Intercontinental Singapore

The best credit cards are ones where the benefits outweigh the annual fee. The more “value” you can extract from that annual fee, the better. Obviously, it doesn’t hurt if the card comes with a strong welcome bonus too.

Ever since Chase announced the elevated offer on the new IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. I’ve been debating on whether I should apply for it.

The debate is not whether it’s a good card – there’s no doubt that the 140,000 points after spending $3,000 on the card within the first three months is amazing – it’s whether it aligns with my credit card and travel strategy at the moment.

Although the card comes with a host of benefits, my favorite is the annual reward night as it allows you to redeem it at properties costing up to 40,000 points per night. If you hold the IHG Rewards Select card (you can no loner apply for this card), this holds true for any certificates issued post 1 May 2019 on that card too.

Ideally, you would want to use the award certificate at the most expensive property you can find (that costs 40,000 points or less). With this strategy you would be, essentially, exchanging the $89 annual fee for a room that could retail at $500+ per night.

But enough small talk, let’s dive in!

In no particular order, here are some great options for redeeming your anniversary night certificate from the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card.

#1: InterContinental Bali Resort

Let’s just start off with a BANG!! Bali is on everyone’s bucketlist. You have probably seen people on your timeline walking through the rice paddies or swinging in the adrenaline-fueled Bali Swing. It may be one of the most popular destinations on the planet right now as people flock there to relax on the beach and enjoy the picturesque scenery. To relax even more, check out the luxurious InterContinental Bali Resort.

#2: Holiday Inn Resort Aruba

“I’m not interested in paradise” …said no one ever!! So, let’s go to Aruba.

Let’s be honest, the Holiday Inn brand DOES NOT have the same luxury connotations as, say, the InterContinental brand, but you may want to keep this one on your radar as the Holiday Inn Resort Aruba is one of the best properties to use the award night certificate.

One major perk to this resort is that it is located smack dab in the middle of Palm Beach in Aruba so you are experiencing the same beach and restaurants as all of the high-end properties next door. The property also features a kids’ room, which is unusual among hotels in Aruba.

#3: InterContinental Madrid

The InterContinental Madrid is one of the most renowned luxury hotels in Madrid. It is a quick metro ride from the city center (or a nice 30 minute scenic walk if that’s your thing). You’ll enjoy luxury accommodations, top-notch service, and a great introduction to Madrid.

#4: Holiday Inn Orlando – Disney Springs Area

Ok, now that we’ve gone around the world, let’s keep it a little closer to home.

As a parent to a toddler, I am keenly aware that visiting Disney World can be ‘budget-buster expensive.’ However, using hotel points is a great way to greatly reduce your out-of-pocket cost. Although the Holiday Inn Orlando-Disney Springs Area is not the most luxurious property near Disney, it has many of the benefits of a park hotel, such as Extra Magic Hours, 60-day FastPass+ reservations and a shuttle to take you to Disney World.

What is the FastPass+, you ask? The service allows you to reserve access to Walt Disney World theme park attractions in advance so you don’t have to stand in line for hours.

With all the changes that are taking place at Marriott, many of their properties are extremely expensive and cost A LOT of points which makes the Holiday Inn Orlando a great option.

Pro-tip: The hotel has great reviews and is the only IHG property in Walt Disney World. Best of all, up to four kids (ages 11 and under) eat for free at any of the on-site restaurants on the property!

#5: InterContinental Doha

Last but definitely not least…the InterContinental Doha is located on the city’s longest stretch of private beach and is surrounded by a surprising amount of greenery for a location in the middle of the desert. I’ve stayed here many times and each time it’s a treat!

Whether you’re looking to stay in and enjoy one of the 10 bars and restaurants at the hotel or explore the iconic Souq Waqif or walk the corniche, it’s a great pick!

With so many IHG properties around the world, you’ll rarely have a challenge finding a property when traveling.

Additionally, their brands are spread across the spectrum – from basic to luxury. And if you’re creative, you can find some amazing luxury properties in lower categories to stretch your points from the welcome bonus too!

But as you can see, there are plenty of ways to redeem this award night certificate for a stay worth much more than the $89 annual fee on the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card (or the $49 annual fee on the old IHG Select card).

What are your favorite hotels for redeeming these reward nights?
