Marriott has just launched a promotion that will be beneficial for anyone that plans to redeem points for an award stay essentially anywhere in the world.
OFF PEAK PRICING AWARDS
For context, Marriott has a dynamic award chart (below). In theory, a room should price at the “standard” rate, however, if the hotel is busier than normal and/or has the potential to sold out, the loyalty program will charge “peak” pricing.
Surprisingly (or perhaps not), Marriott hotels around the world have been charging peak pricing rates for several months straight…yes, in the middle of the pandemic. In other words, loyal customers are being fleeced out of their points despite hotels have a plethora of vacancy. #bonvoyed
However, with this new promotion, thousands of hotels around the world will be charging off-peak pricing. Here is how it works:
- Make a reservation before 14 December 2020
- Stay at an eligible hotel before 28 February 2021
A few quick examples where I was able to find wide open availability at fantastic Category 8 hotels include:
- The Chatwal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, New York City (New York)
- The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe (California)
- The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas (Caribbean)
Even the much discussed and aspirational Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa, Dubai has wide open availability during one of the best times to visit the Middle East.
But you’ll want to move fast as the best properties will be reserved quickly.

In the past, we’ve also seen Marriott offer 50% off peak rates which is a much better deal. However, if you plan to stay at a Marriott property before February 28th, this promotion is worth being aware of and a great opportunity to pay less points.
It’s also worth noting that when you book 5 nights at a Marriott property, you will only pay for 4 nights (aka 5th night free). In other words, at Marriotts most expensive properties, you will only be redeeming 56,000 points per night.
