There in no doubt the current pandemic has affected everyone but Black-owned businesses have been hit substantially harder by the coronavirus pandemic than companies overall.
In fact, Black-owned companies are shutting down twice as fast as other businesses, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Recognizing that almost half of black-owned businesses are in industries that are bearing the brunt of this pandemic (e.g. support services, health care, dining, retail, etc.) and over 90% of small businesses in majority black communities hold cash reserves of fewer than 14 days, it’s important to highlight black-owned businesses.
As you already know, one of my favorite perks of American Express credit cards are ‘Amex offers’ and the following offer REALLY stands out!
NEW AMEX OFFER
If you’re not familiar with Amex Offers, it’s a program where your American Express credit cards are targeted for various savings and bonus offers. In many cases, these offers can save you a lot of money (in my case, more than $1000 in a matter of months).
Right now, there is an amex offer that allows you to shop various black-owned brands and receive up to $10 back after spending $20 through 31 December 2020.
As always, I would recommend that you read through the offer terms so you’re aware of how to utilize this offer, but it’s fairly self-explanatory.
HOW DO I SEE MY ‘AMEX OFFERS?’
To view your Amex Offers, login to your Amex account and scroll to the bottom of your account summary page where you’ll see a list of eligible offers for that specific card. It should look like this…
Ideally, you will find this offer on a card like the:
- The Blue Business Plus Credit Card from American Express [READ MORE]; 2X Membership Rewards points on all purchases on the first $50,000
But even if you find the offer an alternative card, like the two highlighted below, it’s a win!

Personally, as a black-owned business operator, the struggle is real.
I think it is important to highlight various collaborations that are taking place to support black-owned business including this partnership between Black-owned businesses, Showfields, and American Express.
As we head into the holiday shopping season, this is a perfect opportunity to support Black-owned business, receive a discount, and rack up points at the same time.
