A few weeks ago, we saw Chase and IHG introduce an incredible new sign-up bonus on the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card, which in my opinion is a card that’s worth having long-term for the great perks it offers.
As I said in my previous post, you can easily extract more than $89 worth of value from this card given all of these benefits and if you’re going to obtain it, you may as well do so when it’s offering the best bonus.
So let’s look at five reasons you should apply for this card. In no particular order:
#1: 140K Point Welcome Bonus
At the moment the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is offering a sign-up bonus of 140,000 IHG Rewards Club points after spending $3,000 within the first three months.
That is the biggest welcome bonus I can recall on this card and the spending requirement is even reasonable, which is a WIN-WIN!
#2: Anniversary Free Night Certificate
It’s debatable but the single best benefit of the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is the Anniversary Free Night Certificate, which more than justifies the $89 annual fee. The certificate can be redeemed at an IHG property up to 40,000 points per night.
While you won’t be able to redeem this certificate at the TOP TOP TOP InterContinental properties, it’s covers (and I’m estimating) 90% of IHG properties around the world including several InterContinental properties. That seems extremely worthwhile, given that a vast majority of hotels retail for over $89 per night.
To put this into perspective, I redeemed my certificate for a stay at the InterContinental Doha and the retail cost is always $275+/night.
#3: 4th Night Free
Another great perk of the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is that it offers a fourth night free on award redemptions. If you stay for four consecutive nights on an award redemption then you only have to redeem points for the first three nights. That’s an automatic 25% discount. Solid!
#4: IHG Platinum Status
Just for having the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card you get IHG Rewards Club Platinum status, which is valid for as long as you have the card. IHG Rewards Club Platinum status includes the following perks:
- Room upgrades (subject to availability)
- A 50% bonus on base points
- Early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability)
- A welcome amenity
- Stack Benefits With IHG’s Old Credit Card <– I added this benefit (see #5 below) 😉
#5: Stack Benefits With IHG’s Old Credit Card
A lot of people don’t realize this but you can stack the benefits of the old IHG card with the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card. Both cards offer an anniversary free night certificate, so you could earn two certificates each year, and use them for back-to-back stays. Additionally, you are eligible for the bonus on the IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card even if you have the old version of the IHG Card. BINGO!!!
Honorable Mention: Global Entry / TSA Pre-Check Credit
Many credit cards offer this perk as a benefit so once you obtain the Global Entry / TSA credit on one card, it’s essentially useless on the other credit cards. Thus, this benefit may not be as valuable across the board but it’s worth an honorable mention.
The card offers a statement credit of up to $100 when you use your card for a Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check enrollment fee (once every four years). I recommend obtaining Global Entry because it includes TSA Pre-Check. And Global Entry is LEGIT!!!
FINAL STAMP
The IHG Rewards Club Premier Credit Card has an exceptional 140K bonus right now, and on top of that, the card is well rounded and worth holding onto long-term.
Personally I’d get the card for the anniversary free night certificate alone, though there are potentially valuable benefits beyond that, including the fourth night free on award redemptions, IHG Platinum status, etc.
