The Chase Freedom Card is one of my favorite no annual fee credit cards, as it offers 5x points in rotating quarterly categories, for up to $1,500 of spending per quarter. Most people use this as a cashback card, meaning the 5x points really translates into 5% cash back in these categories.
However, the cool part about this is card is that if you own the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, or the Ink Business Preferred, you can easily transfer your points from the Chase Freedom Card to Ultimate Rewards points and redeemed for airlines and hotels. In other words, 5% cash back = 5 points (more on this below).
Register Now: Chase Freedom 5x Points For Q2 2020
As of today, you can register for the second quarter 2020 bonus categories (through 14 June 2020). The Chase Freedom will offer 5x points on the first $1,500 spent at grocery stores, and on gym memberships and fitness clubs, between 1 April and 30 June 2020.

And registration is pretty easy. Simply just go to the registration page and enter your last name, last four digits on your card, zip code, and you’ll be registered.

Terms and Conditions
The bonus categories do have a some terms and conditions that are worth mentioning. Virtually all stand-alone grocery stores are eligible for the Chase Freedom bonus category.
Note: Walmart, Target, and larger stores that sell a variety of things such as warehouse stores (Costco, Sam’s Club, etc.) are excluded. However, for those of us who use grocery store delivery services, it’s also worth mentioning that Instacart is also included in this category.
Virtually all gym memberships (including most standalone gyms and fitness classes) are eligible too. However, given that most gyms are closed, I’m not sure how useful this will be.
Note: For those that have been spending more time on their Peloton because of quarantine, Peloton isn’t mentioned one way or another in the terms so I’m unsure whether it counts or not. But try it and see.
How To Make Chase Freedom Points More Valuable
Let’s talk about making Chase Freedom point more valuable. The Chase Freedom is a cash back card so each point can be redeemed for one cent.
However, if you have this card and use it in conjunction with one of the cards that accrues Ultimate Rewards points (the 3 credit cards below), you can convert Chase Freedom points into Ultimate Rewards points by transferring these points.
- Chase Sapphire Preferred
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
- Chase Ink Business Preferred
In other words, 5% cash back converts into 5x Ultimate Rewards points per dollar with one of the above cards and it can used for airline and hotel redemptions which is what I do with these points.

FINAL STAMP
Since we’re all stuck at home but still need to eat, Grocery stores appear to be a pretty easy category to maximize, and 5x is the best return you’re going to see on grocery store spending.
If you completely max out the bonus category ($1500), you’ll receive 7500 points. For a no annual fee card, that’s hard to beat!
Again, you can now register to earn 5x points for the second quarter for grocery stores, fitness clubs, and gym memberships. However, you won’t start earning 5x points until April 1, 2020.
Do you have the Chase Freedom card? Generally, do you max out the bonus category/categories?
Appreciate this reminder. Idk how I missed this in Q4 & Q1
