Generally when Southwest runs a sale, it’s a nationwide sale. However, at the moment, they have two sales taking place at the same time.
First, Southwest is hosting a sale to Mexico, Central America, & the Caribbean. Beach destinations like Aruba and Cozumel are included as well as cities like Belize City, Belize and Liberia, Costa Rica.
Additionally, US cities across the Midwest and Southeast are included as origins. Simply, click through to the calendar as prices are often lower than advertised.
SOUTHWEST NATIONWIDE SALE
Second, their nationwide sale includes Hawaii with most of the best deals taking place out of San Diego, Oakland, San Jose. Fares to/from these cities are advertised at $139 one-way but I see fares as low as $99 from Oakland to Maui (and vice versa). I actually took this flight a few months ago. [READ MY TRIP REPORT HERE]
Given these fares include 2 free checked bags, this is not a bad fare at all.
As far as I can recall, this is the first time I’ve seen flights to Hawaii included in a major sale since the incredible launch sale last spring. If you have the Southwest Companion Pass, you are really getting a deal!
THE TRICK WITH SOUTHWEST AIRLINES
Whenever Southwest hosts a sale, make sure you check any existing flights you have already purchased. Southwest has no change fees, and if the sale price is lower you will receive a credit for the difference usable for future SWA fares. Plus, if you are unsure after you buy one of these flights, remember that any fare marketed in the US is free to cancel within 24 hours.
